Senior Electrical Design Engineer

A highly respected specialist engineering business with exceptional staff retention

Solving complex engineering challenges through bespoke test systems and equipment

Technical autonomy and cradle-to-grave ownership in Aerospace

About the company

Our client is a long-established specialist engineering business serving the aerospace sector through the design, manufacture, installation and support of bespoke aero engine test and development systems. Their work centres on solving complex engineering challenges where no suitable off-the-shelf solution exists, developing purpose-built equipment and facilities used to test, validate and support highly valuable aero engines, accessories and airframes.

The company has built an international reputation for technical capability, engineering quality and long-term customer relationships, delivering high-value turnkey projects for customers around the world. Reflecting the specialist nature of the business, employee retention is exceptionally strong, with many engineers spending long periods with the company. This vacancy has arisen due to the planned retirement of a long-serving Senior Electrical Design Engineer, creating a rare opportunity to join the organisation in a key technical role.

About the role

This is a senior engineering position focused on the design, development and delivery of bespoke aero engine test systems and associated equipment. Working as a Senior Electrical Design Engineer, you will take ownership of projects from initial customer requirements and concept development through detailed design, manufacture, installation, commissioning and final customer acceptance. The role combines electrical design, instrumentation, testing and problem solving, requiring engineers to develop practical solutions to complex technical challenges rather than working from predefined designs. Engineers are given significant autonomy and responsibility, working closely with customers, suppliers and internal teams to deliver high-value projects within demanding aerospace environments. Whilst predominantly office-based, the role also includes occasional UK and international travel to support installation, commissioning and customer acceptance activities.

Key duties will include:

  • Design electrical, instrumentation and control systems for bespoke aero engine test equipment and facilities.
  • Produce electrical schematics, panel layouts, wiring diagrams and associated engineering documentation.
  • Specify and integrate instrumentation, transducers, sensors and measurement systems.
  • Develop technical specifications, bills of materials and equipment schedules.
  • Support manufacture, assembly and system integration activities.
  • Undertake testing, calibration, commissioning and fault-finding of delivered systems.
  • Participate in design reviews and provide technical support throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Liaise with customers, suppliers and subcontractors to ensure successful project delivery.
  • Support factory acceptance testing (FAT) and customer acceptance activities.

Benefits

  • Competitive salary (£55,000 – £75,000)
  • Discretionary annual bonus
  • Company Car
  • Generous Holiday Allowance
  • Stable, long-established engineering environment
  • Opportunity to work on technically complex, bespoke systems
  • Long-term career stability within a specialist business

Location

This role is based in the Hertfordshire office with some requirement to visit other offices and client sites, including abroad, particularly for commissioning your work
