About the role

This is a hands-on position combining controls engineering, system design, and project delivery, working across the full lifecycle of complex engineering systems.

You will be responsible for taking projects from initial concept through to commissioning, working closely with internal teams and customers to ensure successful delivery.

Key duties will include:

  • Design electrical and instrumentation systems using AutoCAD Electrical
  • Develop and implement control systems and associated software
  • Produce technical specifications, drawings, and test procedures
  • Integrate electrical, electronic, and software systems
  • Manage projects including planning, scheduling, and cost control
  • Support installation, commissioning, and system testing
  • Liaise with customers and internal stakeholders throughout project delivery
  • Provide technical expertise to support the engineering staff and further their development
  • Ensure compliance with relevant quality, safety, and industry standards

Location

This role is based in the Hertfordshire office with some requirement to visit other offices and client sites, including abroad, particularly for commissioning your work

Candidates

Profile

This role would suit an experienced engineer with a background in controls, instrumentation, or electrical systems, ideally with exposure to complex or bespoke engineering environments.

You will be comfortable working across both technical and project responsibilities, with the ability to operate independently and contribute to the successful delivery of projects.

Key requirements

  • HNC/HND or Degree in Control & Instrumentation, Electrical Engineering, or similar
  • Experience in electrical and instrumentation system design
  • Strong understanding of control systems and system integration
  • Experience working on complex engineering or test systems
  • Ability to manage projects, timelines, and priorities effectively
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work with stakeholders
  • Good general IT and software awareness
  • Experience with LabVIEW or similar control/software environments
  • Background in regulated industries (e.g. aerospace, defence, energy)
  • Experience with sensors, data acquisition, or test equipment
